Penguin and the Oregon Trail

Over the summer I went on a road trip, you may already remember. One of the stops we made was a part of the Oregon trail. No, I did not travel the entire trail, I think that is an adventure for when the camera girl retires and buys an RV.

This is actually a rest stop somewhere in Oregon on the way from Boise, Idaho to Kennewick, Washington. I love how the little state rest stops add in some educational value. Stop to tinkle and get a smidge of learning at almost the same time. Neat! – I know what you’re thinking, yes, we do tinkle. Refocus here… Oregon trail and history – facinating stuff! It’s a very pretty drive, especially along the western states and Oregon. No wonder the pioneers wants to head this direction, it’s lovely!

Some great sites about the Oregon Trail:

Historic Sites on the Oregon Trail
A neat interactive map system so you can learn about various sites along the trail. Plus facts and other interesting info.

End of the Oregon Trail
A great selection of historical information and documentation of the time.

National Parks and Service
The government information site about the Oregon trail

Oregon Trail – the game
This is a fun family friendly game – a free download is available. It’s a great game to interact with facets of history, and it’s been around forever!

I’m pretty sure no one ran into penguins back then, but darnit, history is cool!
