More people the penguin met in Boston

September 26th, 2008

Does it ever amaze you how many smiley people I continue to meet? I think sometimes it’s just because I am so darn cute. But really, if I stop for a second to get over myself, these are just down right happy people. I love humans, thank goodness they love penguins!

Now, this first woman is Amy (top left), one of the gurus behind the scenes of the conference. She is absolutely amazing! Always running in 5 directions to make sure everyone is doing what they need to do and helping and just go go going. She’s great! This next group photo (top right) is my absolute favorite photo from this event. I first met the man in the middle, Oz Sultan with Tacit Knowledge. I took a photo with hi and then he called his crew to join in the fun. Within a literal 1/2 second this pose was created… it was an awesome on-the-spot moment of cool. It was like watching a groovey commercial but I was in the middle.. loved it!

The 3 in one photo (bottom left) is a great crew I met after listening to Scott Polk, from Purplestream Marketing speak as part of a panel. This last smiley guy is Anik, a man I had heard of for well over a year, and finally had the chance to meet. Anik is the creator of Affiliate Classroom, a fantastic resource for affiliates of all levels.

I love causal introductions. Each of these people were chance meetings… being at the right place at the right time to cross paths, and I’m glad we did. First we have Bill from We-Care.com, he came up to me because he is a huge penguin enthusiast - hooray for penguin fans!

Then I met Kit from Sage Blossom Consulting (top right), Michael Buechele with 11 15 Media (bottom left), and Donna with Affiliate Karma (bottom right). I had the pleasure of eatting lunch with these great people - we had a pile of lovely conversations. Hopefully I will have the chance to connect with them again.

Turns our Kit and I live fairly close… well, within the same state anyway. Always nice to meet another Colorado local.

Affiliate marketing and internet marketing companies are an enormously wide spectrum of personalities. I love this combination of photos because its such a diverse group yet they all have theone fabulous thing in common… internet business (and me of course). First there is John Hayes from Zacks Vertical Reach (top left). We hung out at the bar after the events for a little bit. John sang a bit at a mixer earlier - the man can sing!  Then there is our favorite SEO man, Wil Reynolds hanging out with Rebecca Madigan from Mad Again Media (top right). I didn’t get the chance to ask her, but I am going to go out on a limb and assume it’s mad again like crazy good, not grumpy Monday, kind of mad. Dispite her enthusiasm in this shot, she is quite the happy kind of gal.

Next we have Steve Schaffer of Vertive.  He’s got the perfect pocket for me, I think I need to hang out with him a bit more!

Lastly for today, there is Heather Paulson, owner of Paulson Management Group (aka PMG). Currently she is in Colorado as well.. not too far from me at all. I need to take some time to go visit her. We didn’t get to spend too much time togehter.. me and my socializing while she was working hard, but I’m glad I was able to grab her for a minute for this fabulous kiss. Next time… there’s always next time.

The penguin at Affiliate Summit, Boston Part 1

September 25th, 2008

Last month I went to an internet mareketing convention called Affiliate Summit. I had the opportunity to meet with and talk to a number of great people. Here are some of them…

We arrived in Boston and within moments of landing on the shore I met Todd Farmer (left). One of the smiliest, jolly type guys I’ve ever crossed paths with (I’m not sure “jolly” would be his first choice, but I like it). He turned out to definitely be a penguin fan, thank goodness!

Then there was Stephanie from Andy Rodriguez Consulting, such a fantastically sweet woman. (upper right) She’s absolutely adorable! She and Kim Rowley (whom I met in Vegas) had a lot of fun running around the conference with their smiley bells on - this photo was after a long night of “socializing” with adult beverages - fun!

Later, I made a point to find Melissa Salas, In January I watched her win an award but I didn’t get a chance to meet her. So this time around I was determined to get a photo.

First we have Bill and his daughter Jill from Beaches and Towns ( OC-USA.com) (top left) . Then there is Trisha from PSPrint.com (top right). She and the camera girl have been chatting for a few months online, but this is the first chance we had to meet her in person, such a fantastic lady! Then there were a few guys we crossed paths with. Both stopped by our breast cancer awareness fund raising booth, so I took the opportunity to snap a few shots. On the left is Andrew from UltimateCoupons.com -  We didn’t talk too extensively, but I can tell you, (if it is just darn obvious) he’s one happy guy. On the right is Dominic with Advertising.com. We actually met the night before at a social event, but the lighting was awful, so I asked him to stop by and say hi at our booth… he’s a good man!

Check back tomorrow, I have tons more to share with you!

Penguin Meets more Pink Ribbon Supporters

August 19th, 2008

I was helping with a fund raising display at Affiliate Summit not too long ago and met some of the best people. I had no idea how willing people would be to share not only their support and their money for someone else’s needs, but also their amazing stories and generous hearts.

Here are a few of the amazing people I met that day…

Debby Phillips with Market Leverage She is also the host of MLTV

Debby is a fantastically upbeat, outgoing and truly geniune woman. She and the camera girl will be walking together in September in the Seattle Susan G. Komen 60 mile event.

Karen McMahon with Profit Rank

Karen stopped by our table to check out what we were  up to and ended up hanging out chatting for a while. She is absolutely wonderful - a real sweetheart and so very caring. We ran into her again on the last day of our conference - unfortunately, as crazy event endings go, we didn’t get to say goodbye. I hope we see her again soon!

Jonathan Erwin with Online Media Group

We stopped Jonathan as he was walking by. He was checking out the daily events with a smile on his face, even though his luggage was lost. We got to talking and discovered his company and our efforts have something in common - we’re all out trying to help charitable causes. I wasn’t able to snag a business card… so hopefully he’ll hear us talking about him and say hello.

Lisa Riolo independant Consultant

I got a great big kiss from Lisa, how super sweet is that?? She is also walking this September with the Affiliate Marketers Give Back team. She’s an amazing woman that I hope you have the opportunity to meet. Rarely do we (in the general sense) come across someone so open, caring, eager to share and just darn fun to hang out with. Definitely keep an eye on any walk talk - we’re going to have a blast!

There were so many great people at this event. I wish I had had the opportunity to get a photo with them all! If you’d like more info on my involvement in the fight for a cure for breast cancer, check out Pink Ribbon Penguins, you can also read the team blog.

How penguins really fly

August 9th, 2008

All this joking and talking about how penguins can or can’t fly… can make a fella so glum. Unless of course the penguin has one of these magnificent flying machines. THIS is how penguins really fly!
