This was my first time flying into Spokane. I’ve driven through on my way to and from Vancouver in years past, but never been to the airport. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any penguins in town…

That’s all I know.

Penguin meets Buddah and smiles

Yes, I forgot to mention, while I was at the Sedgewick County Zoo, we definitely stopped by to see the penguins. It was fabulous! The exhibit has a chain link type fencing on the rocks so you can go right up to where the penguins are sitting. I said hi, told a few jokes and then we sat and chatted for a while. Then they took off for a swim while I was stuck waddling along with the family – looking at other funny animals.

Visiting the Penguins at the Sedgewick County Zoo

A couple months ago I went on another little road trip to St. Louis. On the way we stopped in Wichita, Kansas because I read that they have happy penguins there. Little did I know, the day we arrived at the Sedgewick County Zoo, it was the first day to see the new Tiger Trek exhibit. WOW, it was fun. Cool habitat for the tigers with lots of scenery and a neat glass viewing area. We watch miss purrfect chomp on a big ol’ frozen steak for a while and then we listened to a zoo volunteer talk about – oh I can’t remember. But it was fun!!

Penguin goes on a Tiger Trek

Well, I didn’t really go to the capital building… I went to the Department of Revenue building across the street. Look at the fabulous view we had there! The Dept. of Rev was rather dull but the folks inside were really nice. Nothing exciting about the day, I didn’t get to go inside the capital building or anything – no, I wasn’t that lucky. Politics make me itch and the last thing I want is to have to wear a wet suit because I’m featherless due to too much itching.

Yes, the top of the building is gold plated – I’d like to climb up there and  lick it or fry up some fish or something else fabulous. The best part about this photo, check out the glorious blue sky! No snow, no rain, no tornados.. just nice, pretty blue sky. It was a grand day!

Penguin goes to the Denver Capital Building

Have you ever been to Boulder, Colorado? It’s a little world all its own. A college town, a strong art community, surrounded by tree hugging beauty and genuine fresh Rock Mountain air. I don’t visit nearly as much as I’d like.

If you get the chance – go visit and make sure to take a gander on Pearl Street, a delightful shopping district filled with artisans, Colorado inspired items and lots of fun.

My favorite shop is the kite shop – selling all kinds of magical wind stuffs. An entire shop filled with kites from floor to ceiling – it’s as close to flying as I’m going to get for a while!

Penguin hanging on Pearl Street

This is probably the most exciting part of Kansas, Kansas City – Don’t blink, the thrill will be gone before you look again. despite all the energy in the air, I managed to be napping. I guess this would be called a penguin nap – getting a tan while I’m at it too. So what does that tell you about Kansas?

I’m not trying to make fun or criticize. Nebraska is nearly the same in many areas.. heck a lot of states aren’t all that thrilling for miles at a time. However, living in Colorado, I’ve been through Kansas a number of times so it’s even more non-exciting to drive through for me. Maybe I need to re-evaluate what qualifies as “exciting” or non-nap-worthy.

For now I’ll just stick with warning you.. bring a pillow, Kansas is worth a penguin nap for sure!

Penguin napping through Kansas

Can you hear the music? I’m doing that funky groove dance as I write this.. go ahead, stop and laugh. I’ll wait.

Seriously I went to the car wash a few nights ago. WOW did the car need it. Here’s how this works.

First, you determine if your car needs a washing…

Absolutely, what the heck spit up on this vehicle??

Then, because gas stations are conviently equipped with carwashing facilities, you can choose what level of car washing service you’d like.

We chose the Ultimate – If they had anything higher, I don’t know that it would have helped. Man this car was covered in slime — I’ve seen cleaner penguin poop corners than this car. Regardless, we chose the top of the line and I crossed my wings hoping for the best.

The you drive to the washing station (reading signs carefully so you don’t have to look like a goofball driving backwards in the “wrong way” drive way). Enter your code from your purchase receipt and follow the washing instruction sign ahead. Then comes the fun part.. bubbles!

Very bad photo skills here. These bubbles are exceptionally fun because they are followed by high blasts of water and then multi-color goo. Gotta love the goo, it makes things shiney!

Finally, lets really talk about shiney. It’s so clean I can see myself.

Penguin at the Car Wash

Well the camera girl loves pretty lights, so I naturally go along for the ride… I might as well enjoy them since I’m here, right? Besides, who can sit in the midst of all this sparkle and not like the scenery?

This is Union Station in downtown Denver, Colorado right before Christmas. We went to see the parade of lights and took a little detour to see more lights around town.
