Camping is one of the coolest activities around. It’s only second to delightful milkshake sipping and napping. (Saying that right now I just realized I never shared my milk shake experience with you… will save that for another day).

So what is so great about camping?

My favorite things about camping (in no particular order)

• There’s an endless supply of junkfood style snacks that mom doesn’t buy on a regular basis
• Nature is all around.. open air, no traffic and miscellaneous critters to awe
• Get to sleep in a tent and play in the dirt
• You can go hiking
• Sometimes you can go fishing and even cook and eat the fish you caught
• Get to explore the great outdoors
• Hot chocolate is a requirement
• You don’t have to take a shower for days.. and everyone else is just as grubby
• Cook over an open fire
• Marshmallows are a regular staple
• Sitting and do nothing is not only completely acceptable, everyone is doing nothing
• There are no computers and often times no phones
• Strange behavior is a norm… singing, making up funny stories, peering and gazing
• Best of all, it’s just nice to get outside and away from the usual day with seemingly no agenda

Would you believe me if I said I put this 6 man monster up all by myself? Amazing what they’ve done with camping gear since I was a tiny chick. You snap your fingers and things happen!

I went to a restuarant that helped entertain the kids by giving them a little bag of Wikki Sticks. I must be kid-like because I was also entertained. They are sticks made from wax covered string (I think). You can bend them and stick them together to create fun and funky stringy scupltures. I made a new friend…

What the heck are wikki sticks?

I had the chance to visit the Barrett Station transportation museum and while I was there I checked out their car collection. They had a some great oldies but goodies. However, none could top the car at the end of the row…

The ’57 Chevy Bel Air in mint green with a soft top and white wall tires. If this were cherry red, I would love pass out right now just from the memory of being near it. I’ll deal with the ice cream green… the convertible definitely wins points tho. Of all the cars ever to ride on the road, this is an all time fav for sure.

Loving the 57 Chevy

That’s right, I haven’t been feeling myself lately. With all the holiday traveling and festivities, I’ve gotten all fuzzy and weathered and just down right beat up. So I started thinking… I need a makeover or a cleanup or a body boost of some kind. They don’t make vacumes my size, but I sure could use one! (Please don’t make me feel worse by stating that you noticed how drab I have become… I’m sensitive to that kind of thing ya know).

I have big plans for 2009, and I want to start it off with a fabulous new me.

Don’t worry, for me, it’s not major surgery. This is more like a little nip here and tuck there… penguin plastic surgery I suppose. But definitely not for vanity sake.. it’s more for my health than anything. Do you have any idea how many hands have held me… all loving of course.  And how many places I’ve sat… every one just down right fabulous! Although I’ve had a number of baths, I’m just not as stylin’ as I used to be.

So watch for it, the new me is on the way!

A new penguin pal

I went traveling abroad with a few friends and we ran across these cool guys. Here’s me and my new Welpie friends, celebrating The Netherlands going to the Euro Cup Quarter Finals. (yes, I know, that was a little while ago).

They lost to Russia, unfortunately. You can see the commercial that we’ve seen a jillion times, with the catchy Welpie song

How penguins really fly

I was trying to get a photo over the July 4th weekend of me and the fireworks… but have you tried to get good lighting of a black feathered friend…. in the dark? It’s not easy, and flashes are the worst. So here I am being thankful for the great United States of America by standing next to a license plate. I wanted to share my spirit of celebrating our independence before the month ended… so here I am.

Oh sure, go ahead and giggle. How do you think YOUR head would look next to the plastic stripes and stars? Right! I’m much cuter.

Penguin, stars and stripes

So a friend of mine was really hoping a penguin would come visit her some day so I surprised her by sending a special little package. She had just returned home from a long trip, was exhausted and nearly delirious with post vacation-ness. This is her initial reaction to my arrival…
Thankfully her sister thought quick enough to grab the video camera and caught the whole reaction.

Oh how I love surprises! It’s like spreading a little happiness with every thought – wheeee!

You didn’t know there was such a thing as an Italian penguin did you? Oh yes, and here’s proof…

I went with a couple of friends to Italy and we ran across this handsome bird, so of course I had to stop and pose for a photo. I’ll tell you more about my trip soon… spaghetti will never be the same again!
