I went to the Renaissance Festival and met a pirate! From my experience, pirates are actually really quite nice… they’re just a bit difficult to shake hands.

If you’ve never been to a Renaissance faire, you should definitely check it out at least once. Really, I don’t know what pirates have to do with the renaissance, but they’re walking around with the maids and men in tights all the same. At the faire in Larksper, Colorado you can watching jousting, eat a turkey leg, meet the royal court and browse through the hand made markets. Again, no penguins, but I think we’d look fabulous with all that amour!

I met a pirate!

How often do you hear about a couple hitting their 60th wedding anniversary? I couldn’t even find a card specific to the occasion.Just a couple years ago I went to a celebration of someone’s 65th, but really, we don’t hear about that kind of commitment very often.

I guess over the years you could get bored or irritated with your spouse, or things just get uncomfortable or your grow apart. I always wonder what makes for a lasting relationship and what results in a split… you know, we penguins stick together no matter what – so maybe I have the answers and I just can’t tell you unless you’re a penguin too. But then again, we also give rocks as gifts when we’re dating, so what do we know?

Will you make it to your 60th?

A few weeks ago I went to my first ever bead show. This particular show was hosted by Rings n Things, a bead and jewelry supply company based in Spokane, Washington. Apparently they travel around the country putting on a whole bunch of these fabulous bead shows. It’s a great time.

I had not idea what to expect. I waddled into a big room filled with tables that were overflowing with beads of all kinds. Glass beads, wood beads, sparkly beads, elegant beads and even some silly fun beads. I had no idea where to start. Since we tend to be surrounded by penguins all the time, I didn’t have a plan for what kind of beads to buy. So I just wandered around for a while until something caught my eye.

I also had the chance to chat with Mr. Kim Crosby. He’s a real trooper. Denver had just had one of those crazy spring snow storms, so Kim and his air traveling crew had to battle the airport choas, lost luggage and still arrive happy and ready to show beads… then head on to the next location.

Although the camera girl and I don’t do a ton of beading, we went to this event because Rings n Things took the time to call and personally invite us to attend. Seems to me that with the boom of email and internet communications, fewer companies stop to reach out personally… so I wanted to see what other great things they were up to. It’s a great bunch! I’m abslutely glad I went.

Penguins, beads and things with Rings n Things

I went to see Disney on Ice and even had the chance to snuggle up with Mrs. Incredible. Isn’t she fabulous? If there is one person more incredible than me, this woman has to be it. I could have gotten a shot with Mr. Incredible as well, but he’s so BIG, I was afraid I’d get lost under his thumb muscle or something.

The show was fantastic, I’ve never seen anything on ice, other than dinner. I had no idea there was so much skating and glittery light stuff going on. I even got to hang out with some great people friends… loads of fun!

Disney on Ice in Denver was hosted by Feld Entertainment. I heard about the event through Mom Central and I was able to get a special family package which included a pre-show gathering, show time popcorn with a treat bag and the photo time. Watch for more events in your area, it’s a good time!

Penguin and Mrs. Incredible at Disney on Ice

The Penguin says Happy New Year!

I hope you’re having a fabulous Thanksgiving with friends and family. I got up early this morning so I could watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. We love the parade, probably because it’s something far and away that seems like a magical fairytale kind of place that we can only see through the tv. It’s a fun tradition in my house. I’ve never had the chance to see it in person, but is something to be thankful for… I’m in my own cozy home watching with my friends.

A thought for you to share…

every night at dinner we go around the table and ask eachother what we’re thankful for for the day. The rule is it can’t be something you said yesterday, but it can be something plain and simple.

Me, today, I’m a penguin thankful I’m not a turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Penguin

I could have sworn that I posted this photo already, but now I can’t find it.. so here I go again. It this is repeat info for you, pretend its brand new, it’s worth telling again. This is my day 1 at the breast cancer 3day in Seattle. We stopped to fill out a circle for what our goal was for the event…

we decided the goal had already been met — we made it here. Thank goodness for that, and little did we know how big of a thought that was.

The event raised some 8 million dollars — can you believe it??? and yes, thats me strapped to the pack.. and my pink ribbon penguin sister is on the other side… we tagged along the entire time!

I met a heap of fabulous people and heard some amazing stories… there is so much we experienced crammed into 3 days, I can’t begin to tell you all of it, so instead here’s a few of my favorites:

this is Marie – I have a 50/50 chance of getting that wrong, i kept calling her the wrong name the whole time… sorry if I did it again – she is with team Happy Feet. And they even decorated their tent with fabulous penguin balloons.

I love being a penguin… there’s always a little happiness, ever where we are. Go figure!

The closing ceremonies were amazing. The entire 3 days everyone was so spread out, it was hard to imagine exactly how many people were involved, but this view was a great one for me. I’m glad I went along!

Penguin and a 3day breast cancer walk

Back in September, while I was toodling along the trail in Seattle, I ran across the Cow ladies. Yes, I said cow… ladies. I don’t know their names, but I can say they are some of the most inspiring women I’ve never met! While we walked our 60 mile breast cancer walk, these women would drive around cheering on the crew. They drove all day every day, and now matter how far back in the pack we ended up, these ladies could still be spotted.

It really helped boost morale when the feet were swollen and the back ached… the cow mobile would drive by honking and yelling and carrying on like it was someone’s 21st birthday.

I love these ladies!

I was so glad to have spotted them at the end of the end – they made the journey even that much more sparkly and down right dandy.

Penguin and the Cow Ladies

Finally, and event I’m not over dressed for. The Affiliate Dinner is an indistry specific evening.. enjoying yummy food and great company. There’s usually a roast of some big wig in the industry, which I’ve never understood the roasting part. usually people are so inspired and appreciative of the person they’re supposed to roast, its hard to do any roasting. But it’s all fun none the less.

It’s a great time, I’m always glad when I get a chance to sit and eat with friends. I might be at another one of their events in Las Vegas, January 2009. Maybe I’ll see you there.

Penguin at the Affiliate Dinner

Any idea? Where have I been? Of ourse you don’t know. I’m so far behind on my reporting of travels and people and places and all that is fabulous.. how could you possibly know? I’m so sorry. I’m up to my beak in great stories about people I’ve met over the last month, and now I’m off to Seattle. I am leaving in the morning with my pink ribbon penguin pal. We’ll be walking with the camera girl on a 60 mile walk to help fight breast cancer. Woo hooo! I’m excited. We ended up raising just over $3100.00 for the cause and now we’re off to join the masses – grabbing the sneakers and away I go!

I’ll be back before you know it, ready to bombard you with fabulous experiences I keep meaning to share.
