Penguins need bubble baths too

June 17th, 2008

After yesterday’s gardening adventure I had to take a bath.. I was horridly filthy. But the bubbles cleaned me right up and now I’m quite squeaky.

Penguin in the Garden

June 16th, 2008

I’ve been doing a little gardening lately - not flowers but actual things we can eat, like vegetables. Oh yes, maybe it’s not typical, but this penguin loves veggies! We set up a little 4′ by 5′ garden in the camera girl’s back yard and we planted a whole slew of things…

Corn

Strawberries

Red Lettuce and a 3 varieties of beans

Peppers
plus we also added pumpkin, cantaloupe, tomatoes and carrots. Yes, Yes, I know. I can hear you from here. The pumpkin alone can take over my tiny garden area. So be it. I just want to see if I can make things grown.. and so far, they all fit, so I’m keeping them all

Yummy is the goal and Yummy I shall have!
As things begin to grow I’ll share more gardening fun with you.

Penguins in Breckenridge

June 14th, 2008

If ever you want to visit a beautiful little town and enjoy some fun in the sun… Breckenridge, Colorado is the place to go. I visited for the last weekend of the open ski season and had a blast!

Snow and evergreen trees and the smell of fresh clean air, what more could a lil’ birdie want?

Behind me is the Breckenridge ski resort. All the white trails of snow are the actual ski runs. Oh the fun you can have here. It makes for a fantastic weekend get-away or a great holiday to relax.

Penguin has a delicious brownie day

June 12th, 2008

I went to visit a friend along with a tasty box of brownies…

These brownies are the yummiest you’ll ever eat. They’re Fairy Tale brownies.
Now, while I sat here pondering my scrumptious treat, trying to decide which end to eat first, a lil’ kitty tried to creep up and nab some for himself.

Is it just me, or do you see, green with envy in those pretty little eyes?

Penguin sweating at the gym

June 11th, 2008

I’ve been training really hard with my pal JGoode, the camera girl, for my big walk in September, and I thought I’d share with you the sweat and toiling I’ve been enduring…

Please note, it is indeed an undaunting task to keep track of how many miles the camera girl travels. Thank goodness I’m here so she can focus on moving forward and not worrying about thinking of such number issues. I’d offer to carry the towel for her too, but she prefers to rough it and use a sleeve instead.

In case you are unaware or had forgotten. We are participating in a 3-day breast cancer walk held in Seattle this coming September. If you’d like more information or to support the cause, please visit me and my pals at PinkRibbonPenguins.com I’d love to see your donation on the list!

Chuckie Cheese had a penguin

June 9th, 2008

For a few hours anyway. Are you familiar with Chuck E. Cheese? It’s quite the popular birthday party hang out around here. Bad pizza, cheap video and carnival style games along with funny looking robotic characters that perform loud songs while crazy suger and pepperoni loaded children run havoc throughout the place. They can earn tickets which get them silly little prizes. Not to mention the climbing, crawling and hanging entertainment playground. Kids LOVE this place. I waddle.. so sitting is more appropriate.. or I might as well be a weeble wobble… so I don’t fall down at every 15 seconds of child stampeding that passes.

It’s loads of crazy good times… if it’s your birthday and you just turned 4.

I had fun watching the kids get excited about the visit by Chuckie himself and the cake was delightful.

If you’re unfamiliar with this kids’ party place, there can only be two reasons…

1. you don’t have one within 25 miles of you
2. you don’t have children old enough to eat cake

If this is you, please take a breath for the rest of the chuck e. cheese familiar universe. They need the oxygen and the 1/2 second of relaxing silence.

Birthday parties are always a good time!

Disclaimer: Do not click the following link unless you need a new song stuck in your head for the day. Chuck E. Cheese’s, “Where a kid can be a kid”.. which all my 4 year old friends can recite at the site of the mouse.

More dipping dots and penguin fun

June 8th, 2008

More Dipping Dots
So about a month ago or so I shared my new found love for dipping dots. Since then I have noticed them all over the place. Of course I’d have to sample my fair share… I’m serious, they are everywhere - there’s even a vending machine for them at my gym. I kid you not!

But so far, my favorite dipping dot locale is a quaint little stand up in Breckenridge, Colorado. I never knew there were so many flavors. You can mix and match however you like.

The woman working the stand was absolutely delightful - turned out she was the owner. It was some 40 or 50 degrees with snow still on the ground when we stopped by her outside kiosk yet she was smiling and so friendly. She even gave me my own little cut so I didn’t have to share with the camera girl’s kids (secret happy dance for that!).

I will definitely be back!

If you’d like to stop by and say hi, the stand is located off of Park Ave. just west of Main Street. You can see it from the Park Ave. — right across from the Breckenridge Fine Art Gallery.

Penguin visits the Magic Gardens

June 7th, 2008

have you ever been to the Magic Gardens in Philadelphia? Oh! I have, and it was fabulous!!

“Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is a 501(c)(3) corporation formed by artists and community members to promote and preserve the Art and legacy of Philadelphia Mosaic Mural Artist Isaiah Zagar.”

It’s a wonderfully whimsical place.

Look at all the cool mosaic art-ness I’m surrounded by, can you even see me?? I’ve found a new art form I love, oh joy of joys!

My quote for the day, “Live a painted life”.

Check more information about Isaiah Zagar

I also found a great video about the man, you can watch and listen to Isaiah Zagar here.

How penguins make snow angels

June 5th, 2008

The last few days at my house have been hot, Hotter and OH is it ever going to stop being hot.. hot! So instead of going on and on about the heat (please disregard immediate previous comment for effect) I thought I’d go on and on out the beauty of snow.

For much of the year I live in Colorado with the camera girl. So i definitely see my share of snow.. and I love it!

This is me making a snow angel. If you’d never made one, you should absolutely try it - it’s silly and fun and completely pointless — except for the fact that it makes you giggle, which, of course makes everything worthwhile.

Why do you think we like bubbles so much? More on that later.
To make a snow angel, you need to find a patch of snow at least as wide as you are tall. Then you lay down, stretch your arms out as far as you can… and flap… slowly. When you stand up.. look where you were laying and you’ll see the outline of an angel.

FUN!
