Despite my penguin pals love for fish, I’m a burger lovin’ bird myself. I really enjoy trying new places but I have my old favorites. Five Guys is one of those favs. They like to keep things simple and just offer burgers, fries and drinks. No milkshakes, but the sweet tea makes up for it.
Peanut Allergies BEWARE: You walk into any Five Guys location and you’re greeted by a big stack of boxes full of peanuts. This is because they proudly cook with peanut oil and want to make sure you know it the moment you enter. They even offer a little scoop so you can help yourself to some fresh peanuts while you wait for your yummy burger.
There is also always a stack of bagged potatoes right in the dinning room… I guess their back room is overloaded with the burger makin’ stuffs. Besides the bags are a cool conversation piece added to the decor.
The burgers are delicious. They are loaded with flavor. If you’re a cheese lover, these burgers can be covered in cheesy goodness; none of that fancy schmancy high end gourmet cheese stuff… no. Just good old American cheese melted on top and dripping down the side. The menu offers a great variety of toppings so you can have your burger made just like you want it.
As I write this, it’s only 9:45am, but I figure, if you add some bacon you can call it breakfast…. right?
Camping is one of the coolest activities around. It’s only second to delightful milkshake sipping and napping. (Saying that right now I just realized I never shared my milk shake experience with you… will save that for another day).
So what is so great about camping?
My favorite things about camping (in no particular order)
- There’s an endless supply of junkfood style snacks that mom doesn’t buy on a regular basis
- Nature is all around.. open air, no traffic and miscellaneous critters to awe
- Get to sleep in a tent and play in the dirt
- You can go hiking
- Sometimes you can go fishing and even cook and eat the fish you caught
- Get to explore the great outdoors
- Hot chocolate is a requirement
- You don’t have to take a shower for days.. and everyone else is just as grubby
- Cook over an open fire
- Marshmallows are a regular staple
- Sitting and do nothing is not only completely acceptable, everyone is doing nothing
- There are no computers and often times no phones
- Strange behavior is a norm… singing, making up funny stories, peering and gazing
- Best of all, it’s just nice to get outside and away from the usual day with seemingly no agenda
Would you believe me if I said I put this 6 man monster up all by myself? Amazing what they’ve done with camping gear since I was a tiny chick. You snap your fingers and things happen!
Do you like to camp?
I went to an art licensing conference in New York City back in May and had the chance to meet Mr. Debbie Mumm (his first name is really Steve, not Mr. Debbie and he was delightfully friendly). Low and behold there was penguin happiness in their exhibit booth.
The camera girl has been a fan of Debbie Mumm designs for years, so having the opportunity to speak with a family member for a bit was a fantastic experience. Some day I hope I can be a big mass produced plushie, then everyone can have one of me…
no such thing as too much penguin!
If you check out their website, you can find free Debbie Mumm project ideas.. cool eah!?
I did a little digging and found these Debbie Mumm penguins for your penguin loving enjoyment…
Do you have a favorite artist that also has a penguin? Tell me about it!
I went to the Renaissance Festival and met a pirate! From my experience, pirates are actually really quite nice… they’re just a bit difficult to shake hands.
If you’ve never been to a Renaissance faire, you should definitely check it out at least once. Really, I don’t know what pirates have to do with the renaissance, but they’re walking around with the maids and men in tights all the same. At the faire in Larksper, Colorado you can watching jousting, eat a turkey leg, meet the royal court and browse through the hand made markets. Again, no penguins, but I think we’d look fabulous with all that amour!
Here’s what I would look like if I were a pirate, I think I’m rather dashing and daring.
(you can grab a pirate penguin for your own here)
How often do you hear about a couple hitting their 60th wedding anniversary? I couldn’t even find a card specific to the occasion.Just a couple years ago I went to a celebration of someone’s 65th, but really, we don’t hear about that kind of commitment very often.
I guess over the years you could get bored or irritated with your spouse, or things just get uncomfortable or your grow apart. I always wonder what makes for a lasting relationship and what results in a split… you know, we penguins stick together no matter what – so maybe I have the answers and I just can’t tell you unless you’re a penguin too. But then again, we also give rocks as gifts when we’re dating, so what do we know?
The cake was delightful!
